Mobility, Comfort & Confidence

C-Leg by Ottobock

C-leg is a mobility game-changer for people with above-knee amputations offering high-tech sensors that constantly evaluate and make precise adjustments at every moment of every step.

Bluetooth®

Integrated Bluetooth® technology permits straightforward communication with the joint. An existing connection is displayed with an LED. Bluetooth® can be deactivated if necessary.
ottobock c-leg Lithium-ion battery

Lithium-ion battery

A lithium-ion battery provides energy for controlling the knee joint. It is located right in the rotation axis of the C-Leg. If you use the C-Leg on a daily basis, we recommend that you always charge the battery overnight.
ottobock c-leg Knee angle sensor

Knee angle sensor

The knee angle sensor provides important data: It measures the flexion angle and angular velocity of the joint.
ottobock c-leg Electronic control unit

Electronic control unit

The integrated microprocessor receives and processes sensor signals. It controls the movement of the knee joint in real time.
ottobock c-leg Inertial motion unit (IMU)

Inertial motion unit (IMU)

The gyroscope and acceleration sensors allow the position and acceleration of the C-Leg in space to be measured. Prosthetic Control is based on motion analysis and additional force determination.
ottobock c-leg Hydraulic unit

Hydraulic unit

The hydraulic unit controls the C-Leg. It generates movement resistance for flexion and extension during the stance and swing phase.
ottobock c-leg carbon frame

New carbon frame design

In order to withstand the varied demands of everyday life, the frame is made of carbon – an especially strong, high-grade and lightweight material. The frame houses and protects the electronics, the hydraulic unit and the battery. Thanks to its new design, the C-Leg has a lower system height and therefore a larger fitting spectrum.

Real-time adjustments

The high-speed response provides state of the art stumble recovery, allowing the wearer to avoid falls and easily negotiate hills, stairs, grass, sand, crowds, and other challenging environments with confidence.

Stance support when you need it

Intuitive Stance recognizes when movement has stopped and “softens” the feel of the knee without reducing stability, making standing more comfortable and less tiring.

MyModes Advanced Mobility

An active lifestyle is fully supported with MyModes, offering the wearer customized settings for even higher performance for activities like golfing, bicycling, horseback riding and more!

Smart control via app

The Cockpit app lets you operate the C-Leg directly using your smartphone – Android or iOS – and access information about the joint, such as the battery charge level. The C-Leg communicates with the app via integrated Bluetooth®.

C-Leg Foot Options

  • Ottobock Trias foot compatible with C-Leg 4
    Easy Everyday Living
The innovative lightweight construction of the Trias is based on a triangular spring system that mimics the anatomy of the natural foot. Dual spring elements provide shock-absorbing relief at heel strike, reducing strain on the opposite limb for secure, controlled confident movements. This system adapts to different walking speeds and to uneven terrain without a loss of comfort.
  • Ottobock Meridium foot compatible with C-Leg 4
    Maximum Mobility

This state-of-the-art microprocessor-controlled foot and ankle improves function and safety for wearers.  The Meridium reduces the need to shift your weight when standing still, allows your ankle to bend into a more natural position when sitting, and adjusts automatically to different shoe heel heights. When walking, the foot keeps the toes elevated during swing phase, making you less likely to trip or drag your toes.

  • Ottobock Challenger foot compatible with C-Leg 4
    High Activty & Sports
While many prosthetic feet are good for walking but not athletics, or specialized for only one activity and difficult to use for anything else, the Challenger can do it all! This waterproof, high-activity foot is designed for users who want to be able to walk around their community, then jump into a basketball game or go for a run without having to switch prostheses.

SmartPuck Socket Solutions

The Smartpuck is a vacuum pump that actively pumps air out of your prosthesis, allowing it to “suck” onto your limb. Different models provide a wide range of user-friendly options, from push-button to smartphone app controls.

Elevated vacuum prosthesis benefits:

  • Lighter, more responsive feel
  • Improved circulation
  • Reduced sweating and skin breakdown
  • Reduced swelling-shrinking cycle in limb
  • Fewer sock adjustments to maintain a comfortable fit
  • Can provide lower trim of socket top

Comfort Cushion Technology

The Smartpuck is a vacuum pump that actively pumps air out of your prosthesis, allowing it to “suck” onto your limb, causing your to prosthesis to feel significantly lighter and more responsive.

Improved comfort and fit

Vacuum technology improves circulation and reduces the swelling-shrinking cycle of your limb, usually requiring fewer sock adjustments to maintain a comfortable fit.

Health benefits

This elevated vacuum suspension system allows wearers to feel more connected to their prosthesis, re-duces pistoning and skin breakdown, reduces sweating, and allows the top of your socket to be trimmed lower than other systems. Constant vacuum helps pull blood, lymph and nutrients into your residual limb, making tissue healthier and stronger.

High-tech control

Different models provide a wide range of user-friendly options, from push-button to smartphone app controls.

Suspension Methods

  • About Locking Suspension Method
Use of a lock or lanyard to physically hold a prosthesis on your limb is often the simplest method of suspension. This mechanical attachment is easy to put on and take off, although aligning it correctly may present a challenge for new users. Locking suspension accommodates more changes in the size of your limb than other suspension methods. This can be helpful for people getting a prosthesis for the first time, but wearers may experience “pistoning” where the prosthesis shifts up and down on the limb, tugging and causing discomfort.
  • About Suction Suspension Method
An airtight seal is formed near the top of the prosthesis, and as the user steps into the socket, air is pushed out through a valve at the bottom. The prosthesis is then like a suction cup, sealed to the user’s limb until the airtight seal is broken. Suction suspension reduces pistoning and doesn’t require careful aligning when putting it on, but additional layers to create the seal add bulk and require regular replacement.
  • About Vacuum Suspension Method
Going a step beyond suction, elevated vacuum suspension uses a pump to actively pull air out of the wearer’s socket, securely attaching the prosthesis to the limb through vacuum pressure. The pump can be electronic or mechanical, depending on your needs, and creates the most secure feeling of any suspension method. Vacuum suspension is ideal for many users of all activity levels. Like suction, there are some increased maintenance requirements and it can add bulk and weight, but due to the security of vacuum attachment, users often describe this type of prosthesis as feeling lighter than any other they’ve used before.
